Georgetown Water Utility covers about 440 square miles across three counties, and by the city’s own count, fewer than 60% of its water customers live inside Georgetown city limits. That is a lot of Georgetown-area property sitting on a well, a storage tank, or the far end of a very long line - and it is most of the reason we run this route.

The Water We Bring You

We primarily source from the City of Austin system. Per Austin Water’s 2025 report, Austin’s water runs about 93 ppm - 5.4 grains per gallon, which is soft for Central Texas.

Georgetown does not publish a hardness figure, so there is no honest comparison to make. We went through the city’s 2025 and 2023 water quality reports and they report no total hardness at all. Anyone quoting you a Georgetown hardness number is quoting a softener vendor, not the utility.

Where Georgetown’s water comes from. Surface water from Lake Georgetown and Lake Stillhouse Hollow under contract with the Brazos River Authority, plus Lake Travis water through the LCRA, treated by Leander and Round Rock and delivered by interconnect. Roughly 6,000 acre-feet a year comes from the Edwards Aquifer.

Watering restrictions: Georgetown is currently in Drought Stage 1 - two days a week by address, no irrigation 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., hand-held hose any time. Pool filling is not restricted at Stage 1; that starts at Stage 2. Stages are declared at the City Manager’s discretion, so they can change quickly. That is one of the most common calls we get in the Georgetown area. We fill the tank and you keep the well.

It comes from a TCEQ-approved public water system and is hauled under the state’s water-hauler rules - tanks disinfected monthly, chlorine residual maintained, monthly bacteriological sampling. Potable in, potable out.
